What is an MRI Scan?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an advanced diagnostic technique that uses powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed, high-resolution images of the body's internal structures. Unlike CT scans or X-rays, MRI involves no ionising radiation — making it one of the safest imaging modalities available.

MRI is the gold standard for evaluating soft tissues, nerves, joints, and the brain and spinal cord. At Zam Zam Diagnostic Centre in Jhelum, we perform a full range of MRI studies with written radiology reports ready within 2–4 hours of your scan, collected from our centre adjacent to DHQ Hospital, Jada, or delivered via WhatsApp.

MRI is completely safe and uses no ionising radiation whatsoever — it works with magnetic fields and radio waves. It is safe for most patients including children. Patients with certain metal implants, pacemakers, or cochlear implants should inform staff before the scan so appropriate precautions can be taken.

An MRI scan typically takes 20–45 minutes depending on the body part being imaged. Full spine or cardiac MRI studies may take slightly longer. Your written radiology report will be ready within 2–4 hours of the scan and can be collected in person or received via WhatsApp.

MRI uses magnetic fields and produces superior images of soft tissues, nerves, joints, and the brain — with zero radiation. CT scan uses X-rays, is faster, and is better for bones, chest (HRCT), and emergency trauma assessments. Your doctor will advise which is most appropriate. Both are available at Zam Zam Diagnostic Centre in Jhelum.

No referral is required to book an MRI at Zam Zam Diagnostic Centre. However, a doctor's prescription is helpful as it ensures the correct body region and protocol is scanned and aids the radiologist in producing an accurate, clinically relevant report.

For most MRI scans there is no fasting requirement. However, abdominal and pelvic MRI studies typically require fasting for 4–6 hours beforehand. When booking, our staff will advise you on any specific preparation needed for your scan.
